TAFER Hotels & Resorts Announces ZERO Plastic Initiative as Latest Step in Sustainability Efforts

PUERTO VALLARTA (August 20, 2022) — TAFER Hotels & Resorts, an award-winning hospitality company with an ever-growing and evolving collection of luxury resorts and boutique villas located throughout Mexico’s most coveted beach destinations, is proud to introduce its ZERO Plastic Initiative, which will aim to firstly eliminate single-use plastics from all of its properties while providing guests with the highest quality water possible. In response to the global climate crisis and need to protect our planet, TAFER eliminated plastic straws from all its resorts in 2019; now, its sustainability efforts continue with the removal of all plastic water bottles and the integration of water dispensers that produce the highest quality of filtered alkaline water.

“With the ZERO Plastic Initiative, we are taking responsibility for our part in keeping our oceans and beaches clean and continuing to reduce our eco-footprint on every level across our portfolio,” said Sasa Milojevic, Chief Operating Officer for TAFER Hotels & Resorts. “Our property wide efforts including the elimination of plastic water bottles and individual toiletries, in addition to the installation of water filtration systems, are part of TAFER’s larger commitment to sustainability and preserving the natural environments that surround our beautiful beachside destinations.”

By the end of 2022, TAFER will replace all in-room individually packaged toiletries with refillable 300ml shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel dispensers at each resort, and eliminate single-use plastics from hotel restaurants, bars, public areas, and guestrooms. With the removal of in-room water bottles, guests will be provided with branded glass bottles to be refilled from their personal room dispenser and Tritan bottles made of BPA-free plastic alternative, to use at the pool and beach during their stays. Further, in an effort to effectively sanitize while conserving water, TAFER’s dining outlets will rely on the innovative technology brought forth by MEIKO professional dishwashers, which effectively reduce water consumption by up to 70%.

With these small changes, TAFER expects to reduce its ecological footprint by preventing the production of over 65 tons of plastic waste, as well as the emission of over 150 tons of carbon dioxide per resort per year.
