The Talent Behind Garza Blanca’s Gardens
Gregorio Vargas Muñiz is a very important man on the Garza Blanca Preserve, but he’s not one you might necessarily know by face though his work is all around you. You see, Muñiz and his team take care of the grounds and gardens of the preserve… all 85 acres of these lush, mountainous grounds benefit from his talent, passion, and artistic nature (as well as his green thumb!). The hard work of Muñiz and his team have made gardens which are more like an art gallery.
Who is the talent behind Garza Blanca’s Gardens?
Gregorio Vargas Muñiz is actually a native of Cuba, but spent his early years in Guanajuato, Mexico where he no doubt got his love of the landscape and nature. The beautiful town is set on rolling hills and lush green landscapes, and Muñiz was no doubt affected by his family’s love for agriculture. More than 22 years ago, however, Muñiz moved to Puerto Vallarta where he was able to put his green thumbs to use in the gardens of the Villa del Palmar resort in there. There he learned more than a few tricks of the trade, and earned acclaim as well as a few promotions which saw him, eventually, land his current position at the Villa del Palmar’s sister resort, the Garza Blanca Resort & Spa.
A Balance of Nature
As head gardener at the Garza Blanca Resort and Spa in Puerto Vallarta, Muñiz now leads a team of talented gardeners who are dedicated to the preservation of the grounds and gardens here, as well as a number of environmental programmes which Muñiz has spearheaded. The cultivation of seeds, replanting of trees in areas affected by construction, the introduction of fruit trees, and the re-introduction of species in decline to the woodlands are all programmes under his command right now. You see Muñiz is not only trying to make sure that the resort stays looking its best, but that it is in the best condition it can be in environmentally speaking.
Plant a Tree
You’re not restricted to simply seeing the grounds and their evolution, however, as the team, with Muñiz as their leader, encourage guests to get involved where and when they can when they come to Puerto Vallarta. This means that if you wish to you can help out in the Orchid Garden, help to separate the organic waste used in the grounds compost, or even help to plant trees. This is a really fun way to make the Garza Blanca Preserve your own while you vacation there.
Muñiz does keep very busy tending to his projects such as the reforestation program, the botanical gardens, and the nursery, but he still has time to create the beautiful works of art which guests and employees alike find so delighting. The hiking trails and tours which can be found across the grounds are peppered with the works which Muñiz has created with broken branches, stones, and the other materials which can be found around the area.
