TAFER Hotels & Resorts actively seeks better ways to reduce environmental impact, to minimize our ecological footprint through meticulous planning and innovative practices. And to serve as beacons for sustainable tourism through meaningful, responsible practices that will make the industry step into a brighter future.
This is why TAFER has adopted a series of strategic, eco-friendly measures for all our resorts in Cancun, Los Cabos, and Puerto Vallarta to restore, protect and preserve the ecosystems surrounding our resorts.

ZERO PLASTIC INITIATIVE
To eliminate as much waste as possible in all our resorts, this innovative eco-friendly program provides the highest quality of alkaline water to our guests while eliminating single-use plastic from all rooms, restaurants, and public areas.
The solution: new, 100% reusable. high-quality bottles, refillable in personal water dispensers are placed in all the guest’s rooms to substitute the former single-use plastic bottles. Additionally, Tritan bottles made of a BPA-free alternative to plastic are given to guests for their daily use at the pool and beach. Plastic straws, as well as disposable food containers and other plastic items, have also been replaced by sustainable, biodegradable options.
These significant changes invite clients to join our efforts and enjoy an environmentally friendly vacation, allowing TAFER Hotels & Resorts to eliminate the waste of close to 65 tons of plastic per year, per resort.
WATER TREATMENT AND CONSERVATION
With an unwavering goal to protect the most vital resource in the world, TAFER has implemented various water conservation measures in all its properties, including a treatment plant at every resort where water is collected and reclaimed to be reutilized, an energy-efficient seawater desalinization plant to produce new potable water for everyone to drink from safely.
We have also embraced the use of new technologies to achieve this, such as low-flow fixtures and the innovative MEIKO professional dishwashers that reduce water consumption by up to 70%, allowing for minimal use of this precious resource and effective energy management during the dishwashing process.


ENERGY-SAVING PROGRAM
All TAFER resorts are keen to increase sustainability in every possible way, which has led us to install energy-saving systems and energy-efficient fixtures, while incorporating meaningful practices that minimize their ecological footprint:
In every room, we use the latest temperature control systems with high-tech thermostat sensors that adjust and optimize energy usage, proactively allowing us to reduce consumption. Additionally, our air conditioning systems automatically turn off when patio doors are open, eliminating unnecessary energy waste.
By prioritizing eco-friendly materials and incorporating proper waste management systems and principles, our resorts strive to create a cleaner world. And as a corporation, three significant changes have been made to achieve this goal:
AMENITIES
Plastic waste is a big sustainability challenge in the modern world. Most recycling plants have trouble separating the various components in plastic, meaning that only a portion of these materials can be reused.

WASTE MANAGEMENT
Proper sorting and separation of waste is a priority at all the TAFER Resorts, as we recognize the supreme importance of improving the quality of our environment.
For this reason, a comprehensive waste management program is in place at every resort, where staff members receive extensive training for the correct handling and segregation of organic, inorganic, and special waste, facilitating a successful recycling system.

VEGETABLE OIL RECYCLING
We proudly collect and process all waste cooking oil to make biodiesel, an environmentally conscious practice that allows us to obtain renewable energy; not to mention that the reuse of this waste oil is crucial, as its disposal is extremely harmful to the environment. By using clean fuels, vehicles can be powered with minimal pollution, a worthwhile effort that reduces carbon dioxide emissions by up to 90%.

“TAPATON” INITIATIVE
The “Tapaton” Initiative is a clear demonstration of our dedication to making a positive impact on society. Here's how it works.
We collect discarded plastic bottle caps from all our operations and guest stays. These caps are then donated to various foundations supporting children with cancer, autism, or other health issues and conditions requiring specialized treatments, therapies, or any kind of extra support. This simple yet impactful initiative not only reduces plastic waste, but also provides much-needed support to those who need it.

TURTLE NESTING SEASON SUPPORT
Each year, dozens of sea turtles cross to the sea to lay their eggs in a hard, dangerous journey to them. Which is why we help by collaborating directly with SEMARNAT (our national environment and natural resources secretary) with the registration and report efforts.
NATURAL DISASTER SUPPORT / BASIC NEEDS COLLECTION
During natural disasters, we rally our resources and engage in collection drives to gather essential items for the people who were affected the most through these crises, like non-perishable food, clothing, essential hygienic products and first-aid supplies. This initiative provides immediate relief to all the surrounding affected communities, offering them hope and support during challenging times while driving people closer to those around us.


“MY TAFER BACKPACK” PROGRAM
Also known as “Mi Mochila TAFER” in Spanish, this is a program designed to support the educational aspirations of our staff's children. We award backpacks filled with school supplies to elementary, middle, and high school students with an average grade of 8.7 or higher. This annual event includes a celebratory breakfast where we honor these bright young minds and inspire them to continue striving for academic excellence, launching them into making their dreams come true and reaching their full potential.
IMMEDIATE PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING AND GUIDANCE SERVICE
In TAFER, we prioritize the mental well-being of our staff through our immediate psychological counseling and guidance service. This service provides immediate assistance to staff members facing stressful situations, anxiety, sadness, or other psychological distresses, whether in work or personal-related situations. We offer timely support and counseling to help our team members navigate challenges and maintain their mental health and well-being, as we understand that early intervention and prevention are our best allies when dealing with difficult situations.

"BRING ONE THING” PROGRAM
We collect and donate essential items like pencils, clothing, and hygiene products to various local and national organizations, providing much-needed resources to them and the people who depend on them. It fosters a culture of giving and compassion among our staff and guests, while also supporting various associations that work with children, such as “Cánica”, “Alas en Libertad”, and other children's homes.

LEFT OVER PESOS
Also known as “pesos sobrantes” in Spanish, the goal of this program is to make people from all over the world to donate their “leftover coins”, or whichever amount they wish, by depositing it in designated boxes in our resort lobbies before their departure.

GARAGE SALES
We periodically make sales offering hotel-donated items in good condition at affordable prices, destined specifically to collect money, all of it proceeding to supporting local families in need of our communities and families.

DONATIONS
Moreover, through the Eagle’s Wings Foundation, we have received generous donations, including computers, medical equipment, a bus, an ambulance, and 2,000 new pairs of Nike shoes. These contributions are distributed to various associations and institutions, reinforcing our dedication to positively impacting the communities we serve.
